It has been months and months since I have written a post.....the last several months I tried to write I could not figure out how to get into my blog to write....I think the blog gremlins were doing something to my page. I just cannot seem to figure out what is going on sometimes....but, tonite I tried again, and wa-la....I was able to get in to write.

Well, so much has happened since last writing....my sweet Sparkie cat has gone to kitty cat heaven....she disappeared one night after biting me again. I was going to have to give her away to a farm to be a mouser because she was so naughty and did so much biting and scratching. She went outside one night and never came back....she was such a beautiful kitty, but had mental health issues, I think!!
So, off I went to NOAH and got a new kitty....this one is black, and his name is Kitty Boy....he is a real lover boy, and good most of the time except when he climbs up the Christmas tree or jumps up into the window in the living room about 8 feet up....he thinks he is an acrobat!

This Christmas season we have much to be thankful for.....my dear hubby had some heart issues with Afib....and the result was a pacemaker. He is doing fine now and we are so grateful for the brilliant scientists that invented the pacemaker.
I am still quilting and teaching....making a giant lone star now and getting ready to make a Yosemite Half Dome collage soon.
I hope to try to keep up with the blog again, as long as I can figure out how to get in and write a new post.
Wishing you and all your families the most blessed healthy and happy new year....Judy Irish

I have given up trying to post pics tonite....computer seems to be throwing a fit!!!
I wiil try posting some pics of Kitty Boy later and some of my new quilts.....Judy Irishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16898257311931581479noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5750113422989209471.post-31753692800353802152015-06-03T20:43:00.000-07:002015-06-03T20:43:15.871-07:00PicturesHi all.....hubby is here now to help me figure out how to post some pictures....so here goes!!
my quilt called matrimony from and Aardvark pattern....very fun....I raw edged it down instead of needle-turning.

It is called Fractured, and fun to make. A little tedious, but beautiful with all Australian fabric.

I can't wait to take her class in July. It should be loads of fun.

We had our Camano Island Quilt Show in April, and the quilts were totally fabulous. We have such great quilters in our guild, and had Abbey Rents put up our pipes. Much better since we are a mature guild!!

Naughty Sparkie scratched and bit me last night, but thank goodness it did not get infected....I had one bout with that a month ago, and it was a visit to the dr.....antibiotics and a new tetanus shot...I needed the shot anyway. Naughty Sparkie. How can that sweet face be sooooo ornery????

Will try to post more often in the coming days. I am going to finish the last two Kaffe quilts so I can get them mailed off to England. Then I have several of my own projects I want to start.

Have a great weekend coming.

Shame on me....seems like I just never get going on my blog. I certainly tip my hat to those faithful folks who write every day. I guess I am just not that enamored of my computer, not to mention it seems like I never get around to sitting and punching away at this keyboard.
Well, since last we spoke, one of the most exciting things was getting Sparkie to the vet for her shots.

But I guess I will let Sparkie tell you all about that. She loves to chat on-line almost as much as she loves to bite and attack her mom.

Hi Sparkie Fans......if mom doesn't get on the computer and do her work, then I never get to post anything on the blog. I have not yet figured out how to work the computer, but I do love to sit and watch the cursor wiggle around the screen.
Mom took me to the vet for shots and a pedicure, which did not work out very well. The vet is a cute young blond girl who managed to give me my shots, but I did not want a pedicure, so I left her with one giant scratch on her arm and me with no pedicure. I do NOT like to go in my little cage to the VET. Poor mom. She has to struggle getting me there and listen to me cry all the way. I am such a brat!
But, mom has been letting me go outdoors and play everyday. She thinks it will help me blow off steam so I won't be naughty when I come inside. I did scratch and bite her one day which ended up with a big fat infection the next morning. Mom had to go to the doctor and get antibiotics and a new tetanus shot. She was due for one of those shots anyway!
I don't mind if she loves on me when I am trying to eat or waiting at the door to go outside. She thinks I am totally distracted and not interested in biting. Going outside and eating are all I have on my mind.

Oh, I have learned a new trick......I can climb up into the rafters of the studio and walk along all the stringers for a bird's eye view of everything. I really love to do that. I think I may have to take up tightrope walking. I think I would look pretty cute in a tuu tuu! I would have to find a good color to go with my beautiful calico colors...maybe lavender?? I hope it wouldn't make me look too fat!

Mom has been busy doing more quilts for Kaffe's next book, some pretty ones coming up.....she even made a couple quilts for herself....not to mention taking a few classes. Victoria Findlay Wolf was here and also Denise Oyama Miller. Denise does great things with layers of fabric and even paper!
I think she should do a little piece with me as the focal point. Maybe they could hang it in the Museum of Modern Art or even the Louvre! I think I would make a wonderful subject for a piece of art. Or maybe she could make a quilt of me hunting....I am still a great hunter, and bring mom a little present now and again. Mom says she wishes I had a kitty cam on my head so she can see what I do and where I go all day long. I am glad I don't, as she may not like what she sees!

Mom and dad had to fly to Michigan for a memorial service for dad's mother. Lillian Irish lived 93 years and had a most memorable life. She had three great children, and worked hard for most of her life, starting in the depression. People back then sure did have to work hard just to survive. I am a lucky kitty to have my mom and dad....even though I never let them know with a good snuggle or kitty kiss!

Mom and dad are expecting 12 guests next week....all "family" coming to visit just for a day on their trip to Seattle. It will be great seeing them. I hope I don't have to be a nice, sweet kitty. Mom and dad "adopted" them over 40 years ago when they came from Viet Nam. I know mom and dad love them very much, and really do think of them as family. Sadly, they live in the Bay Area, so seeing them does not happen very often.
Mom planted lots of pretty flowers this spring, so the yard looks pretty. She has to plant them in pots because the snails and slugs eat everything in sight.

Well, mom says I better sign off so she can get to work on a beautiful poppy quilt. I will try to have her be more faithful to her blog in the future. She also has to up=date her website, which is even more challenging than working on her blog.
Hope you all have a great week, and gets lots of quilting done.

Love from Sparkie, and mom too! Ok....where are my pictures.....the computer is not working so I can add pictures. Dad will have to help tonite.
We have oodles of pics to post, so will have to do it later. Judy Irishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16898257311931581479noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5750113422989209471.post-65104099398448283962014-12-05T09:47:00.000-08:002014-12-05T09:47:14.215-08:00I'm Baaaack!!!Ok...so what have I been doing these past months....I have no excuse except being BUSY, BUSY, BUSY....like everyone else...hopefully this will get me back in the mood again. I also have to work on my website, which is worse than a root canal...ha. I love to talk to other quilters and post what I am doing, but I have to use the computer, which is always a challenge for me. And, lately, the computer has been less than cooperative.
So I will post a few words this morning and then get ready for a more faithful posting schedule in the future.
NOTES FROM SPARKIE.....Hi to all my kitty lovers...mom says I can just write a short note now as she has to get busy in the studio. Mom says to be sure and let you know that I have been getting sweeter by the day! She has been letting me go outside to play, and I LOVE that! There is so much to see and do in this big yard. I love to watch the birds, and hunt for little critters. Sometimes I get up on the arbor, and then mom or dad have to come and get me down. Getting up there is no problem, but getting down can be quite a challenge. I have even stopped chasing mom when she gets into bed. I know she is happy about that. And with so many fun things to do outdoors, I have even stopped biting mom so much.....I guess I am maturing!
I think it is getting to be Christmas time again, as I am seeing those pretty decorations starting to appear, and I love to play with them. I hope they put that pretty tree up in the house again, so I can climb inside where it is much warmer.
Well, for now I will sign off and let mom get to work. I hope you will come back soon and check to see what new adventures I have to tell you about. Have a happy day....Sparkie.
What a great shop, and soooo busy. Too bad I wasn't there, because all the gals would have loved my cute little face, and I could have had fun chasing around the shop playing in all that fabric. Mom says the colors and styles were right up her alley....funky and fun stuff. She had to be very careful about buying, because she said she could have spent a big bundle on all that gorgeous fabric.
There was a full class of eager machine doodlers, and they all had a great time and did some really beautiful work. Mom even met Garen who went with Julie on the infamous Boston trip that mom missed. The weather was great at noon for the lunch run, but after class the skies opened and it was like the 40 days and 40 nights of rain. Garen, being more a of a NYC native that mom, helped her flag down a cab for Grand Central. The Grand Central quilt exhibit was closed in the morning so mom never did see the quilts. Lisa Jenni had a piece in the show, so it was disappointing to miss seeing them. They looked great through the windows! What a mad-house. Mom said she was sure she was a country girl after 2 days in NYC. It is pretty nice to see all the trees and mountains out our window, and only worry about deer and crows instead of racing cabs and millions of people running all over the place!
Soon it was time to leave to come home, and mom and nephew Earl and his wife, Sheri, left in their rental car for the infamous Westchester airport on Wednesday morning. They had different planes but leaving at almost the same time, at least that was the original plan! While getting gas in the rental Sheri got a notice on her magic phone that their flight was cancelled...so with that bit of info we didn't totally turn in the car, but went into the airport to check on the flights. Sheri and Earl managed to get a direct flight from LaGuardia to Seattle arriving about the same time as the cancelled flight. Mom's flight was still a go, so she checked in and Sheri and Earl headed to New York to La Guardia in the rental car.
Mom waited patiently in the gate area....there are only about 3 or 4 departure points at this little airport...and you can hardly call them gates as you walk out on the tarmac to board!. Earl and Sheri are now on their way, and poor mom is sitting there reading her new book from the book-signing. It was a good thing she had that as it turned out. Plane is delayed on take off!! Poor mom...still waiting and it is now a couple hours late from original take off time.
Finally the plane arrives and she can board....2 bags are checked..some with quilts....oh boy, hope everything gets to Seattle on time and in one piece, cuz mom gets testy when she thinks quilts might turn up missing.
Oh, good....time to board....sitting on the plane and waiting.....oh, no....what now???
Waiting some more.....pilot comes on and says there is a problem in Chicago....tower had a fire......everything is delayed or cancelled....back to the gate....off the plane to wait inside for further info.
Where is mom...I am missing her.....waiting in the airport, of course. Still waiting....oh, good, back on the plane....wait a minute....those guys are checking out the nose wheel pretty closely as she got on, and mom mentioned to the attendant about it...yeah, there may be a problem. She told her seat mate she wasn't buckling up this time....maybe the plane won't be going anywhere....oh, no......
The one flight attendant....a small plane remember!....announces that the guys driving the tug to push the plane out hit the nose wheel gizmo, and they gotta send in mechanics and engineers to make sure it is safe....ok...back into the airport to wait some more....
ANNOUNCEMENT!!! News at 4....finally after 4pm the big wigs decide that plane can fly and so everyone loads up again....for the THIRD time. This time is the charm, and off they go. Considering the fire in Chicago, it was a lucky break, because planes were fouled up all over the place.
Mom, where are you????
Land in Chicago about 6 or so...... poor mom missed her connection, which, it turned out, was cancelled anyway.....now to find another flight to get to Seattle...poor mom....she was running around to gates trying to find another flight....finally a clerk said to go over there....that is where you re-schedule....
Then, she took mercy on mom and said she would try to find a flight...oh, good news...the airline had scheduled mom for the NEXT DAY....mom said NO next day.....yippee....a flight leaving in a half hour would work...new reservations.....at a far away gate of course, and you can get to Seattle yet tonite.
I think mom ran down one gate area around the corner to the next gate area, and finally found the gate just in time to board. The clerk made it sound like I got the last seat.....but lots of empty seats on that flight, and as it turned out a special seat in the middle with a tray attached.....yeah...mom had lots of room and was on her way!
After landing in Seattle mom hurried to the baggage carousel......yippee....the bags were there and was she HAPPY! Now to get the bags on a cart and head for the shuttle area....that was the easy part, and after a couple hours' wait the shuttle arrived and headed for Stanwood and other stops.
I was so happy to see mom come in the door at about 1 am........she gave me a big hug and kiss, but I did have to play hard to get, just a little. Mom said I looked bigger, but that was just because she forgot how big and cute I was. I was so glad to see her, and now I have someone to tease and chase around the house. I think mom and dad are both going to go on another trip some day, but mom said she didn't care if she ever flew anyplace again...... EVER!
I don't know why flying is so hard...mom just puts me in a cute little red carry case, and sticks me in the car and off we go to the VET'S.....no plane rides for me!

OK......the BlogSpot goblins are playing games with me again...can't get any pix posted so will try again in the morning! I will at least try to post Sparkie's travel tale....hope you all have a great night's sleep, and I will sign on again tomorrow.....with Sparkie, of course!Judy Irishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16898257311931581479noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5750113422989209471.post-67544191938736730122014-05-19T09:48:00.000-07:002014-05-19T09:48:11.767-07:00Connecticut at LastHi all...Judy here to write the next installment of her big trip to CT.....I am giving Sparkie the day off as she has been busy chasing me around the house, biting my toes, and being a general all around pill!
After that most annoying flight to New York, chasing my bags down Westchester, and finally arriving at my nephew's late Thursday night, I finally got to New Milford, CT. I was really sad that I had to fore-go my trip to Boston Friday....still had to get my rental car and so I told Julie to just go ahead without me. I missed the Pilgrim Roy quilt exhibit, but did make up for it with another show in Manhattan later that week. Julie had a friend Garen along and as it turned out, she was in my class at the City Quilter. What a great surprise that was...but I still have not met Julie, the wonder woman of red and white quilts. They had a great time in Boston, anyway!
I caught up with some friends in New Milford, Mary Eddy, Pat Murphy our town mayor, and also took a quick trip out to the Silo....a great place for gourmet food and kitchen goodies. I was once Skitch Henderson's farm which he gave to the town of New Milford in trust. New Milford as changed a lot with new businesses sprouting up everywhere, especially along route 7, and more new restaurants in town. It must be the best fed town in the whole state. Lots of weekenders there from New York, so they need food! The town green is still the prettiest ever, and so typical for a New England town. I do miss that....but not the snowy winters which they say was horrible this last season.
I was able to see Susan and Linda at the Northern Star quilt show which was great. Beautiful quilts as always, vendors for shopping, and a great program with Mark Lepinski as the speaker. Lots of laughs there! Then we had a great dinner in Ridgefield....yummy scallops and risotto. I may get to see Susan again as her son now lives in Seattle. Quilting friends are the BEST.
Monday night I taught my friends the Sherman Tanks...a great group of gals I teach every time I go back to CT....some used to be in my old Calico Cats Guild years ago. They are lots of fun and great quilters. We did an old fashioned spiderweb block.
Tuesday I returned my car and my dear friend Marilyn picked me up. I usually stay with Marilyn but she had been in CA for her granddaughter's first communion.....what a treat...she took me to the new Red Robin Yummmmmmm....for lunch, my favorite place for a hamburger!
She also surprised me this week with a shopping spree in her stash....she is thinning her fabric, and did I ever get some neat things. She also gave me some wool, and I decided I need to try to make a wool project so I can have some handwork for when I am sitting around airports...2 more trips coming up! No one believes I am going to do handwork. Time will tell.
Wednesday was fun....we had dinner at the Cookhouse with about 10 of my quilting buddies, and also my Carmen Hill neighbor, Ginny. She is moving to South Carolina soon...so I was glad we got to visit a bit.
On Friday Marilyn's husband drove us to New York. He works at CBS and drove in that day instead his usual train commute. We ate breakfast at the diner as usual, and then Marilyn and I took a cab uptown to the New York Historical Society. There was a great exhibit of Civil War quilts there, and tho not big, it was packed with great examples of all kinds of quilting, and moving stories of that period of our American history where quilts and war merged.
Sunday I went to church with Sheri on the green, the old Congregational church which will be 300 years old in the next decade. The church has beautiful stained glass window, typical old straight box pews and white walls and wood trim....the steps leading up to the church have seen the footprints of many souls, including founding fathers such as Roger Sherman. One thing about those old New England towns....you cannot escape the awesome sense of history at every turn.
Well, after coal fired pizza with Earl and Sheri, dinner out with the gals again: Rigmor, Judy, Marilyn, Marie, and Denise, and ice cones at the dairy farm....I think I was about at the end of the line for foodies! We did make one trip to the Whitehorse Inn and pub....the old Marbledale Pub when we lived there.
A book-signing with Marie Bostwick was fun....turns out her sister is in my Camano Island, WA quilt guild, and her novels about a town in CT.....reading her novels is like walking around New Milford and surrounding areas. The Cobbled Court series is a great set of books, and well worth reading. Marie was at the City Quilter Saturday when I was teaching there. Small world!!
I can't forget to share my teaching adventure at the City Quilter in NYC....how fun is that. The fabric there is just my type...funky, colorful, and fun.....and the class of gals was inspiring. What fun we had, and I met Garen, who was on the Boston trip I missed. If ever you get to New York, you MUST stop by the City Quilter, or check them out on-line if you can't get there in person.
I was able to Priscilla, we worked together at Connecticut Memories, and of course, Madeleine, who owned the store.....what memories that brings back. We always called it the Stuff Store...it was filled with so much stuff...and one of the most popular shops in town. We also did our share of counseling with our customers....it was the place to go if you were feeling down in the dumps...all that stuff would cheer you up for sure. There were lots of old estate treasures there from all the estates Madeleine did.....soooo many goodies....books galore, glassware, dishes and household goods...jewelry, and other odds and ends. I still have many things in my house I bought there!
The best part of any trip back to CT is seeing all my friends....the blessings of sweet friends is one of the best things in life. Treasured memories are sweet remembrances of happy times shared around happy times and sad. We should all be blessed with friends who cheer us on and love us no matter what.
So, now it comes...the end of the trip, and packing and saying goodbyes and hoping to see dear ones again.....in CT or WA. It is always sad to leave my "family" in CT, but I was getting homesick for my hubby and my Sparkie cat. I will leave the gory details of my trip home to WA for the next post....I hope you will check in for that adventure....hmmmmm.....I wonder whatever happened to that pirate!
Sparkie sends her love and will write next time. She is taking a nap for now! Love from us all.
Judy Irishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16898257311931581479noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5750113422989209471.post-51070895700214569682014-05-15T10:15:00.001-07:002014-05-15T10:15:17.829-07:00ARE WE THERE YET???Hi all.....Sparkie here writing for mom....poor mom....she came finally came home from her big trip to CT and NY. I missed having her here so I could chase her feet, bite her toes, and entertain her by running around the living room, climbing her quilt ladder, and pestering her to turn on the faucet so I could have a drink.
Mom had such a terrible flight both ways on this trip. She always likes to take the red eye from Seattle so she doesn't waste a day flying....that went pretty well. Left Sea-Tac just before midnite and arrived in Chicago around 6 am. Oh, goodie. Plenty of time to catch the plane connection......except there were a few snafus......she said the first was the gate change...ok....hike to the other gate....plane is late of course.....finally time to board. OK......board the plane. Buckle up, and wait to take off....oops....PLANE CANCELLED!! Poor mom because it is way after lunch and hours after she was supposed to be in CT renting her car. Now what??? Off the plane and off to the customer service to get another plane. Lines of people trying to reschedule. Oh, my, where are mom's bags??? I hope they get to Westchester. There are quilts in her bags, and she will not be happy if they get lost!
Oh, gosh, calls on mom's magic phone are flying here, there, and everywhere from CT to WA. Gina was going to pick her up at 10 am in CT...cancel that.....oh, and call and cancel the rental car till tomorrow, hopefully. Done!
Lots of people in line and each with a story of where they are going and why they have to be there. The lady in line behind mom was trying to get to Peekskill as her mom was dying, and she really needed to get there. Mom told her to go ahead so she could get on her way....she got to Newark where her sister would pick her up, and she could get to her mom. I wish I could have been there to cheer my mom....I know she was getting mighty discouraged, and her Friday trip to Boston with Julie was slowly slipping from view. OK...mom's turn in line to schedule a new flight. Looks like all she can get is a flight to La Guardia in NY...better than Newark, she figured. OK....let's go to LaGuardia....another wait till flight takes off....oh, boy....that one actually took off, and things are looking up. Plane arrives in NY about 6 pm......where are mom's bags.....she had them re-scheduled for the airport in LaGuardia......oh, noooooooo......the baggage carousel is going round and round, without mom's bags.....oops...guess they went to Westchester!....how did that happen cuz mom was not on any plane to Westchester. By now mom is getting pretty annoyed...check with baggage office...oh, yes, a call to Westchester verifies that the bags are there....but mom is at La Guardia.....ah...the joys of travel....oh, well, she just needs to catch the limo to CT....oh, just so you don't think she is living large in a long black limo sipping chocolate milkshakes and watching TV....it is just a big bus called the CT Limo. Bus scheduled....coming in 45 minutes....ok....it is 45 minutes and where is the limo.....oh, stuck in traffic. so another 45 minutes...now it is still an hour and a half to Danubury....lucky for mom her niece works just around the corner from the hotel where the limo stops....she is on call to pick her up when the limo gets there. Finally the limo comes and the driver is on the phone for 10 minutes arguing about something.....I think mom should write a book about this trip for sure....ok, finally they leave for Danubury, but first stop is Norwalk, then Danbury....
Around 8:30 or so mom finally lands in CT in Danbury....NO BAGS.....so....niece Sheri picks up mom at the hotel and kindly agrees they should drive to the Westchester airport about 30 miles away....gotta get those bags...
Mom is hungry, but now it is getting late, and no time to stop at the diner! Gotta get those bags before they disappear....so off they go....Run into the little airport and no baggage area for missing bags....wait......a sign! Go to gate agent for missing bags....hope is fading fast because it is very late, and gate agents are all missing, counters closed.....OH, NO!! Hurry, mom.....I hope you can get your bags. Oh, my....a spark of hope...there they are.....right behind the United counter along with a bunch of other missing bags. It must be a miracle. No ticket agent, just a couple of TSA agents by the X-Ray machine...they are closing down.....please get mom's bags so she can get home. Oh, no...they cannot do that. Mom said she would crawl over the counter if she had to.....Finally after 2 tries a nice little gal comes out from the inner depths of the airport and hands mom her precious bags. Oh, happy day....now it is after 10 pm. It is a welcome trip home to New Milford and the comfy bed...but first a stop at the Big Y for ICE CREAM, of course. What else would mom want for dinner after all that.
Addendum>>>>Oh, mom said I should tell you about all the interesting people she saw at the airport...especially, the pirate. While waiting in Chicago, she heard a bunch of clanging and rattling only to look up and see a pirate coming into her gate area to also wait for a plane. Oh, she said he was sooooo interesting. He had a fabulous three sided hat on his head with gorgeous, colorful peacock feathers sticking out about a foot. His long curly hair fell down his back and he twirled his long handlebar mustache. He had pins and other goo gahs hanging from his KILT...a nice blue plaid kilt, and since mom is Scottish, she was impressed with that! Oh, my...she wanted a picture so badly but didn't think it would look good to just snap a picture. (She did sneak one of part of his outfit from across the aisle and got his feet and part of the kilt.)
He had on a leather vest and the neatest black boots with cuffs. Mom said she would like a pair of boots like that. My, mom was wondering why he was dressed up like that. At least her wait was entertaining......oh, and the girl with the half shaved head and big bunch of hair on top dyed green was interesting too. Not to mention the man with the shaved head and tattoos.....all on his head and neck. You see all kinds of interesting people at the airport.
Mom spent lots of time reading her Marie Bostwick book...more about that later....she met Marie at a booksigning later that week.
Poor mom also missed meeting Aunt Julie and going on her trip to Boston to see a Pilgrim Roy quilt exhibit. She was so looking forward to meeting Julie for the first time, too. The crazy trip got in the way of that road trip.
So, anyway, after a day late, mom got started on her adventure in CT and NY......I will tell you more later.....especially about the trip home...even worse than getting there, if you can believe that!!
Oh, I caught another mouse for mom, and left it for a present this morning....she can't believe there are mice in the house...never saw them before....she says I am a good mouser and gave me a big kiss to thank me for catching another one....hopefully that will be the last! That's what mom said, anyway....as for me, it is sooooo much fun to catch mice and see how much mom appreciates me!
I guess I better sign off for now, and take a nap.....writing a blog takes a lot out of a little 8.5 pound cat like me. Love, from Sparkie and mom too.
PS....we will post some pix next time. Dad has to put them in the computer!Judy Irishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16898257311931581479noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5750113422989209471.post-64836766631536345082014-04-21T14:28:00.000-07:002014-04-21T14:28:56.080-07:00Connecticut and New York....Here I Come!!How exciting to think about getting back to CT and seeing my quilting buddies....not to mention how exciting it is to teach at the City Quilter in Manhattan. I am looking forward to meeting Julie...a wonderful quilter whom I met by quilting her lovely red and white quilt, seeing my nephew and his wife, Marilyn, Sarge, Skeeter, Gina, Mary, Becky, Pat, Susan, Linda...ok....I must have missed someone. We will have fun at the Northern Star Quilt show, seeing the Pilgrim Roy exhibit in Boston, have class in New York and Sherman, CT.....girls nite out at the Cookhouse....and just hanging out and catching up on old times and new!
Oh, noooo...that means I leave Sparkie at home with Ken.....oh, my. She has been a naughty girl a bit lately...but has a good story to tell about her mouse adventure.
I hope we have a nice full class in New York. Last time we did, and had so much fun.
I just taught a class in OR and the girls did a fabulous job doodling on their quilts. They said it was much easier than they thought.
Trying to finish all the quilts for the next Rowan book. Some very neat designs and great fabric as always. Kaffe Fassett and Liza never disappoint....each new book is always so great....especially all the photos.

Notes from Sparkie....Hi to all my fans....aunts and uncles and cousins. This spring has been pretty quiet, but mom says I have been naughty again....I was on the dining room table and the kitchen counter. Even though I look so cute drinking water out of the faucet in the bathroom sink, she says I DO NOT belong on the table our kitchen counter. I have been much better lately.
But I did help mom catch a mouse. I had to do something to get back in her good graces!
One morning when mom got up I had a mouse cornered in the kitchen. We sure did surprise her. I thought I was doing a pretty good job...mom was wondering what all the noise was about. Then she say a little brown thing on the floor....which turned out to be the mouse. I was having a good time playing with it, too. Then mom tried to catch it and the mouse quickly ran into a cupboard that wasn't tightly closed.
I tried to catch it but the mouse got the best of me...I stayed in that cupboard for hours and never did get it.
Then, later that night I was making lots of noise and knocking things over when mom got out of bed about midnite...."What is going on...she yelled?"....Well, since I can't talk, I just kept chasing down that mouse. It seems he had gotten brave enough to come out of hiding....but I tracked him down...mom found us in the bathroom. I had that mouse cornered pretty good. Mom got a broom, and whacked him....he was kind of stunned...and mom was able to catch him and put him outdoors...She was proud of me, and said what a good kitty I was. She said we had never seen a mouse in the house before. Hopefully we never will again.
Mom went to OR to teach and left me home with dad. I had a pretty good time...I like to run around the living room and climb on the back of the couch, up the chair and the quilt ladder. I get a pretty good view from up there.
Well, mom keeps talking about taking a trip to something called CT....I hope she isn't gone too long, because I get lonesome during the day. She always comes over to check on me. I think she is going to take me outside one of these days, when it gets nice and warm outside. I hope you are all enjoying your spring. It is slow arriving here. I will write again soon, when I can think up some more cute antics to write about....Sparkie
I have Kat's quilt here, the one with the peace sign....she does beautiful quilts...her blog is kellygirlquilts.

She does beautiful things.
This is the sample we are going to use in New York for the gals to try. It is a collection of a lot of different designs....one at a time it is easy....I have used it in other classes now, so I know they can do it, too. I used some paint and crystals, too...just for fun! I am looking forward to seeing what great things they will stitch.
I have been busy quilting and Sparkie has been busy entertaining us with new tricks and playing with her toy mice. She is quite the hunter.
Sadly, we had a big mudslide not too far from us. One of my friends is safe in a motel. Her house is about a mile away from the slide. Another long-arm friend has missing parents and daughter and fiance. It looks like they may be among the dead at this point. It was so sad, and happened so quickly that no one could even manage to escape from their homes.
We have much to be thankful for. Our hearts go out to the missing and their families. May God give them His Perfect peace as they try to find the missing and try to deal with such a terrible loss.
NOTES FROM SPARKIE......greetings to all my people fans....just want to let you know how much fun I am having teasing mom. I love to jump out and bite her feet as she hops into bed....and when she brushes her teeth I can get into the sink and have a nice drink of water from the faucet... I LOVE to do that. I can't wait till spring when I can play in the pond and waterfall. I also have been having fun messing up all the throw rugs in the bathroom and bedroom. Mom is always tripping on them, and stepping on my little toy mice I drag around. Mom says I am very entertaining!....Now I am going to crawl up on the desk and sit in front of the computer screen...I LOVE to do that. I might have an email I need to answer. Well, for now I am just going to curl up on a pile of invoices and take a snooze...hope you are all enjoying your spring days....love from Judy and Sparkie.
I just wanted to tell you about my exciting visit to the VET at the end of December. Mom said we were going to the vet to get the "snip-snip"....I wondered what that meant, since I already had all my shots. Well, I soon found out. I came home with stitches in my belly and my belly all shaved slick as a whistle....and I have such a cute belly too. They used some new fangled way to stitch me up, but I didn't let that stop me from licking now and then. By the end of the week my incision was beginning to open up, so mom took me back to the VET and they had to put me back to sleep again and re-stitch my cute little belly. And to make matters worse, I had to wear the CONE OF SHAME. They gave me a plastic hat and it fit around my neck and stuck out so I couldn't lick my belly any more. I could hardly walk very well because it threw my balance off....mom said it would be the longest week ever! After a few days, I was able to walk pretty normally, and even eat and drink my water. But I couldn't lick my tummy.....so I guess the cone of shame worked just fine.
I healed up and after a week they took off my pretty new hat. I was glad of that, because I was getting tired of wearing that thing. Even the vet said I was quite a little dickens, not like Tommy Boy who was such a mellow fellow. But, then, I am still a cute little kitten. I won't be able to use that excuse forever!
Mom says I am calming down a bit. I don't climb up her pants anymore, but I am too fat for that trick. I am not biting her quite so much either, and sit and let her pet me once in awhile, too. If I weren't so cute, I couldn't get away with half of my tricks. I like to annoy mom and dad by running around the living room in circles, jumping on mom's special chair, then the couch, and hiding in the corner, only to repeat as many times as I can. Pretty soon I will be an old lady cat and just lie around sleeping. Then mom will say, "Why don't you run around and play??"
Parents are so hard to figure out. Instead of sitting in front of the computer screen, I am so sweet, and just sleeping on a pile of mom's invoices. What a good girl I am! Mom says she has to work on her website now...and I know how hard that is for her. She always says she is not a techie type. Maybe I can learn how to update her website. I bet she would love that! I hope I can do better with my blogging this year. For some reason, it is hard to sit down and get to it. It seems like I always have so much to do. I hope you all get lots done in the weeks ahead, too. Sparkie
Shame on both of us. Well, to be fair, she was sick for almost three weeks most of January with her sometimes usual bronchial asthma stuff. I think she escaped last year, tho.
Anyway, one day dad came into the house with a HUGE box....pretty soon he was making a giant tree in the corner of the living room. Mom and dad kept talking about Christmas, and how we needed an artificial tree so the Sparkie would be less likely to eat it!...I don't know exactly what this Christmas thing is, but after the tree was all set up dad put some pretty lights on it and then mom had two big tubs of something she called ornaments. I had lots of fun trying to knock them down and found some little wire hook things that were for hanging the ornaments. Mom kept taking them away from saying I could play with them because they were too dangerous and I might swallow one. Oh, oh, that could mean another trip to the vet...but that is another story I will save for my next post.
Mom said she was going to use her patchwork ornaments because they wouldn't break. I did have fun playing with them on the tree though. One day I made mom laugh when I marched by her with a cute little star ornament in my mouth. I knew it wasn't a mouse, but it was still fun to play with.
Actually, I was pretty a pretty good girl. I only jumped from the arm of the couch across to the middle of the tree. I never did climb up very high. Of course, every time mom saw the tree wiggle, I would hear SPARKIE!!....Then I would run like the wind so I wouldn't get in too much trouble.
It is fun to chase the little mouse around and around!

Christmas is fun with all the lights, paper, ribbons, and other goodies, not to mention interesting new smells and foodies to attract me. (Mom seems to think I have an unusual attraction to food and thinks it is funny when I come running every time I hear a candy wrapper crinkle.!) I must say that I do have good hearing when I hear those wrappers crinkle.

I also have great hearing every time I hear the faucet running. Poor mom can hardly brush her teeth....I get right up on the counter and drink water out of the running faucet. I have to admit I do look pretty cute drinking water out of the faucet and jumping onto the counter any way I can. Mom says she has never seen a cat so intrigued by running water. I wonder if the koi pond will be as much fun as the bathroom faucet. I hope I don't fall into the pond....there could be frogs and other critters in there.
I heard the timer go off, and I think I smell some pizza baking...oh, boy! It is sad, though, because mom and dad will only feed me cat food....no people food. I can always dream! Well, I better get on with other things for now, like teasing mom and scrounging for some pizza....I will tell you all about the VET on my next post. SparkieJudy Irishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16898257311931581479noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5750113422989209471.post-65925511209625213702013-11-30T21:45:00.002-08:002013-11-30T21:45:33.017-08:00More Notes from SparkieDear Kitty fans....it has been a busy several days. It is hard to find time to do all the things I love to do....like run around the house like I am possessed, climb on top of the quilt ladder, jump several feet from the bed to the window sill, or fly around the living room jumping on everything that I can.
Sometimes I like to fool mom by hiding. Today she was calling me and looking all over for me....finally she found me hiding in her big blue denim bag. I haven't hidden in there for several weeks, so it was funny when she found me peeking out at her. It is so much fun to try to fool her with some of my tricks.
I like to sit nice and cozy on mom's lap, and then just take a chomp on her hand or toes. One day I took a big chomp right on her nose. Mom didn't think that was very funny at all. I don't know why she got upset. I can't climb up her pant legs anymore, so I have to find something to amuse myself!
I am almost too big to run between the washer and dryer, too. I will soon 5 pounds. Mom says I get a special visit to the vet when I am over 5 pounds....for a snip-snip operation. I wonder just what that is. Maybe I will get a treat afterwards.
Mom says I am looking more like a cat than a kitten, but I am still cute. At night I like to curl up on mom's hand and sleep till I get bored. Then I like to play and chew on her fingers. Mom doesn't like that. But I am so cute, she lets me stay up on the bed anyway.
Pretty soon mom and dad might put up a Christmas tree, but I heard them talking that maybe they shouldn't do that this year, cuz I might try to climb up to the top and play with all the ornaments. I hope they put up the tree, cuz I would like to see what a Christmas tree is. I don't know what these things called ornaments are. I wonder if they taste good.
Well, I guess I better let mom tell you what she did this week, and then it will be time for bed. I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. I know I am thankful that I got such a wonderful mom and dad to adopt me, even if I am a naughty girl sometimes.

Hi fellow quilters.....well, as you can see, that rascally cat has been keeping us busy. I have to admit she is pretty funny at times. I have lots of pictures to prove it!
This week was Thanksgiving, and we went to my brother's in Graham, about 1 and 1/2 hours away. It was dry so driving was fine, and the traffic was very light. I guess everyone was shopping when we drove home that evening. Lots of stores were loaded with cars.
We had a nice big ham with potatoes and all the usual trimmings. Everything tasted yummy. We had fun reminiscing about the days of our youth and some of the things we did way back then.
Had fun at a few fabric sales, and today made about 5 table runners/toppers. I made mostly Christmas themed ones, but also a couple with sunflowers. They turned out pretty neat. I will post them as soon as I get the pictures in the computer. I had planned to clean a few things in the studio, but the piecing got the better of me...there is always another day for cleaning. Lots of tops to get quilted in the next few weeks, so have to keep at that.
Ken took the last waterfall pump out of the pond, and lowered it a foot or more for the coming rains. It is also supposed to get very cold again next week. Can't wait for spring!
Well, guess I better go find that silly Sparkie girl. Maybe I can coax her onto my lap for awhile.
I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving Day, too. Tomorrow is church already, and there will be lots to
do this week. Best wished in the coming days during this busy season....Love from Judy and her Sparkie girl.
PS...still got so much to learn on my new magic phone. Today I tried to email someone, but that did not work out...it came back to me....how does that happen??
See how cute I am? How could anyone get upset with such a cute face as this?
Judy Irishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16898257311931581479noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5750113422989209471.post-25492583784464772082013-11-19T08:42:00.002-08:002013-11-19T08:42:40.406-08:00BIG WORK DAY!Hi Gals...today is a big work day for me....I have a great big quilt on the frame made by one of my students. She did some amazing quilting on it with Northwest type fish and animals. She is very creative. I will post some pix next time. Her name is Dawn, and she takes my classes at Gathering Fabric. We have class again this Saturday, so my hope was to get it done before then....I should finish by tonite I hope.
Miss Sparkie is still full of the dickens....chasing around the house like a maniac, and still biting her mom. I guess she is teething! She is about 3.5 pounds I think. Tomorrow is Vet day so we will know for sure.
I think I will have the Vet clip her nails. I tried and it is so hard. I get one or two per foot, and give up. She is so wiggly and doesn't like to see me coming with that nail clipper.

I can't even remember if I told you about our retreat....we had a great time, and I made about 3 tops and did a few other things. The girls did some fantastic projects, and we ate way too well. This is a great retreat center near Mount Vernon, WA. We plan another retreat this spring and again next fall.
Our winter weather seems to be starting with cold and rainy gray days. The sun did break through a couple days ago.
Oh, my big news...I got a MAGIC PHONE...I guess they are really called smart phones, but they are like magic to me. I cannot believe all the things you can do with that little tiny phone you hold in your hand. It is almost scarey! I have soooo much to learn, and doubt if I will ever use all that it can do. But I mostly love taking pictures on it, which is what made me decide to get one in the first place!
Now I gotta figure out how to get the pictures into the computer so I can share them on my blog...maybe you can do that from the phone too....amazing.
Well, gotta get moving.....have a great day. Judy
Our blocks at retreat for the quilt we donate to the camp. We just have to finish putting blocks together now.
NOTES FROM SPARKIE.....Hi all my kitty fans. I hope you are doing fine...I know I am! I have been doing lots of running around the house lately....mom says I have been naughty. I finally pulled down the quilt hanging over the chair in the living room. Mom said she was surprised it took me so long. I have figured out lots of new tricks in the past couple weeks....and can keep mom and dad busy trying stop me from climbing up on top of things. Mom says I go to the VET tomorrow for my last shots. I don't like that, but when mom puts me in that little red carry thing, off we go. I am too big to hang upside down in there now. Mom says I will be making a special trip soon for a snip-snip....what does that mean??
I will be glad when I don't have to see that VET so often. Maybe when I get older I won't have to go so often.
Well, mom has to get to work, so I guess I better try to entertain her with one more trick.....sometimes I like to curl up under her chin just before she leaves...she says I look sooooo cute. If you make lots of mischief, you have to at least look really CUTE!! love, from SparkieJudy Irishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16898257311931581479noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5750113422989209471.post-14706872889734552852013-11-06T09:36:00.002-08:002013-11-06T09:36:52.796-08:00Fun with Freddy and MollyHi all....what a busy couple weeks around here. First, Freddy Moran and Molly Federici came for a visit. Freddy came to teach and Molly, one of her avid students and fans came from Illinois to take the class. What a great time we had.
Unfortunately I had to teach on Saturday, so couldn't take the class, but we had plenty of fun on other days.
We stopped off at the Chilhuly Glass Gardens in Seattle on the way home from the airport....what a magnificent display of color, and an inspirational for lots of quilts. In fact, I saw one in a magazine that was one of the glass displays....a boat full of beautiful glass balls. The artist created a beautiful likeness.
We also had fun on a day trip to La Conner and the Quilt Museum....and shopping of course! The weather was pretty good those few days they were here, and we were able to enjoy some beautiful scenery in the sunshine.
Molly, one of the gals I quilt for, came all the way from Illinois to take Freddy's class...and it was so much fun to meet her after quilting many of her beautiful quilts. She, like Freddy, started quilting later in life, and she does a fabulous job. I think we will have her back next time Freddy teaches. We had such a great time fabric shopping and sight-seeing, that we need to find some new territory to explore the next time!
We spent one day on Vashon Island at the Island Quilter shop where Freddy had about 40 of her quilts on display. What a happy feast for the eyes. I wish more people enjoyed color the way Freddy does....it is a good thing we work together....we both love color and fun quilting....not to mention perfection is not at the top of our list!
We said good-bye to Freddy and Molly and a day later we had our guild retreat.
What fun it is to sit and sew with your friends, have your meals prepared, and no interruptions. You can get soooo much done. I only got 2 tops and 1 huge back done, and 2 baby quilts bound...so I guess I didn't get as much done as I had hoped. I always bring way more than I have time to finish.
The setting of our retreat is beautiful with a farm below our sewing center and beautiful hills and trees in the distance. Even the loss of power on Saturday morning for a couple hours didn't stop us.....some of the gals did hand work by the windows and others were still cutting. We are looking forward to a retreat in the spring and again next fall.
In the meantime, I have piles of quilts waiting for the long-arm....I have done a few since I got home and plan to keep my nose to the needle and catch up on some things that have been waiting to be quilted while I was travelling or entertaining our visitors.
I hope you have had a good time these past few weeks, too.....now I will give Sparkie a chance to write her few lines! love, judy

NOTES FROM SPARKIE
I have a new name...mom has been calling me Sparkie the pest....I wonder what a pest is. Every time I climb on the dining room table, or up on the desk or some other neat place she calls me a pest. Yesterday I dumped her plant over twice, so I guess that is pretty naughty.
She should be proud of me, I went up to 2.6 pounds at the vet visit, got my shots and had a good check-up. Mom weighed me yesterday and I was up to 3 pounds. She says I have a great interest in food, and I admit, that I do love my kibble. I like to see what mom is eating, especially if she has something called icecream, but she pushes me away. Aunt Marilyn sent me a toy that has a little want that rotates back and forth and around and around in a circle....it is so much fun to chase....mom and dad put it out for me to play when they are eating dinner. That keeps me busy so I don't bother them when they are eating!
One of my favorites. One of Freddy's friends made the fabric with all the stamped shapes on solids....I LOVE this one...and the orange background is pretty fabulous, too.
Judy and Freddy!
I made the crazy lonestar below at the retreat. I will call it Crazy Dancin' Feet. It is pretty busy....but, I always say if I want my eyes to rest, I will take a nap! I still have borders to figure out.

Sometimes I still bite mom....she doesn't like that....but I am just playing with her. I think I might be a good mouser. I sure like to chase things and jump up on high places. I can jump about 4 feet across the room or from the bed to the window sill. Maybe I should try out for the Olympics! I could be on the broad jump team.
Well, today mom has lots of work to do, so I guess I will sleep on the big, soft office chair while she is out quilting. Sometimes I can be such a good girl and keep out of trouble. I still have a cute little face....mom thinks I am cute, even if I am a naughty kitty from time to time.
I hope you have as much fun today as I will.....Sparkie

OK...how did those pictures get in the middle of Sparkie's story......I will never figure this out. And to think I may get one of those new magic phones...I might think that over for a bit!Judy Irishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16898257311931581479noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5750113422989209471.post-13970161618596280812013-10-23T08:42:00.002-07:002013-10-23T08:42:43.019-07:00Naughty SparkieHi all, today is the big day.....we go to the VET again. I hope the needle is not too big and that the shots don't hurt too much. Mom says we leave soon and I have to get in my little red carrier. I think I will jump around inside and hang upside down from the top of the carrier like last time. It makes mom all worried when I carry on like that.
I played a good trick on mom last night. When her friend went out the back door I sneaked OUTSIDE to have a look around. She says I can't go outside, that I am too little. Maybe a coyote will eat me up....I wonder what is a coyote?? I am still pretty little, but when the VET weighs me today, maybe I will have gained a couple pounds. Mom says I am getting bigger....my legs are getting longer and my body is longer too. I think I have gained a half pound by now.
Mom is going to the airport after we see the VET....she is going to pick up a couple of quilting friends. One is a famous author, Freddy Moran, and the other one of her customers. It is exciting because she has never met her customer Molly from Illinois. Freddy will be teaching this weekend at Aunt Mary's Quilt shop. I guess I better start thinking of hiding so I don't have to go in my little carrier. Mom has to eat breakfast and off we go. I would rather go to the airport. I wonder where I could go....Someplace warm and sunny, as I am getting tired of the foggy cool mornings. It is a good thing I didn't have to stay outside all night long. It has been pretty cold at night lately.
I hope you all have a great day, and I will report on my big visit to the VET next time. Love, from Sparkie!
Dazzling Dahlia quilt from MQX...
by Andrea Brokenshire....so beautifully done.Judy Irishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16898257311931581479noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5750113422989209471.post-89105987655503216552013-10-15T09:36:00.003-07:002013-10-15T09:36:56.130-07:00Notes from SparkieHi all my kitty fans!
I have had such a time lately. Mom has been gone to a quilt show at the Museum for 4 days and left me all alone all day. When she got home I had to run around like a cannonball. I had to climb up her leg...one of my favorite things to do, and climb up the quilts on the quilt ladder. I got all the way to the top before the quilt slid off and I fell to the big pile of quilts on the couch near-by. Mom was not too happy about that adventure. Yesterday I tried to climb up to the window sill, but the blinds were in the way, so I was hanging by my toenails to the window sill until I finally fell down. Being a kitten is such hard work, but around here there are so many interesting things to peak my curiosity.
I found a great little piece of cardboard from the mail package....boy, it that fun to play with. And mom's pony tail scrunchies are really fun too. I have found 2 of them, and they are like soft little hockey pucks that I can speed around the wood floor.
Yesterday mom weighed me and I finally reached two pounds. She was able to put the flea medicine on that the VET gave her. And now she is talking about another visit to that VET for more shots. I hope that needle is smaller than the last time. I wonder how many more visits to the VET for shots I will have.
I spent this morning snuggled under mom's chin purring in her ear....she loves that. I have her fooled. I get all snuggly, and then I run around like crazy getting into all kinds of things. How can she get mad at such a cute and snuggly kitty?
Well, mom will have to write about her MQX adventures in the next blog. I will try to post some more pictures this morning. I couldn't get anything to work last time I tried. Mom is going to feed the fish on her way to the studio....I have not yet been outside....I am sure there are plenty of things to entertain me out there. I hope you all have fun with your cats and dogs today. We love to make you happy and entertained. Love from Sparkie.
These are some shots of of the quilt I did of my dad and nephew. My nephew is over 40 years old now. I entered this quilt in the La Conner show. It was my first attempt at a person type pictorial. I used the photo because I wanted it to look really "real". It took me about 6 months to make this quilt.....of course, it had been started several times over the last 15 years! I am going to do one of my mom next.
I took a very fun class, actually two, from Claudia Pfeil of Germany. She was loads of fun, and had some great ideas and gave me lots of inspiration to try some new things.

This is one of Claudia's samples....the paisley above she did in class and attached the little mirror with the long-arm. I love taking classes and getting some new ideas, or getting the inspiration to find the time to try things that have been rolling around in my head for a long time. You are never too old to learn.

Oh, the most exciting thing was that I got a 3rd place ribbon at the MQX show. I was especially thrilled since I am probably one of the oldest long-armers still at it, and have a 16 year old Gammill with no stitch regulator. There is always hope! I thought it was fun to win over lots of those fancy computerized machines!Judy Irishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16898257311931581479noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5750113422989209471.post-29553567524144530602013-10-13T22:44:00.002-07:002013-10-13T22:44:48.816-07:00Fun and Inspiration at the La Conner Quiltfestival 2013Hi everyone.....while Sparkie takes a break, I will fill you in on the Quiltfestival at La Conner.....what inspirational quilts there were. Kathy McNeill was the Best of Show winner with another of her beautiful pictorial quilts. There were so many other great ones...I especially loved one from Iowa that was pieced and appliqued on top of an antique quilt.....big, wonderful cornstalks with leaves all around and buttons galore.
There was a great chicken, and underwater scene, and many others that made my creative brain spin!
The weather was great, which made walking around town fun, too.
I worked all day Wed. thru Saturday......had to get the vendors set up, and then make sure they got their breaks.
Oh, did I mention the garments that were so wonderful, especially the one with the New York city skyline and prairie points small than my baby fingernail! An artist from Holland entered a few that were appliqued....WOW, is all I can say.
Sadly pictures were not allowed, so you will have to send for a DVD....you can find it on the Museum website. Then you can be inspired, too.
Sparkie did pretty well with me being gone so much, but I did miss her, and she was happy to see me everyday when I got home. Oh, Oh, the VET again next week.....maybe they can clip those razor sharp little toenails she has.
I hope you will all be inspired to quilt something new and exciting, too. Judy
Since I can't post pictures of the La Conner show I will post some of the MQX show.....another awe-inspiring show with unbelievably beautiful quilts.

Well, after about 10 tries to insert image.....the computer keeps giving me a message that won't allow pix to load....will have to try again tomorrow....makes for a dull blog! JudyJudy Irishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16898257311931581479noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5750113422989209471.post-57529879504657772512013-09-30T08:48:00.001-07:002013-09-30T08:48:26.338-07:00A Visit to the VETGood morning kitty fans! Well, I finally have to tell you that I learned what that VET thing was all about. Mom got up early today and put me in that little red house with the screens all around. Then she zipped up one end and locked me in!! I was stuck in that thing......out the door and into that big, black, noisy car. Gosh it was scarey. I think it needs a new muffler as it was so noisy and every time we went over a bump my little red house would bounce up and down....how scarey is that for a tiny kitty?? Mom kept talking to me so I wouldn't be afraid, but it was still scarey. Finally we got to the VET and mom took me out of the noisy car and into the VET....we sat and waited a few minutes until the VET's helper came and took me away into the back room. Mom didn't come, but I pretended to be brave and went with him. I could always scratch him with my teeny little needle claws if I had to.
They said I weighed 1.3 pounds...what does that mean? Gosh, that does not sound like much to me...mom said I like to eat way too much, so I hope she keeps my kibble dish nice and full. The VET gave me something called a shot.....it didn't hurt too much....they checked me out and thought I wasn't quite as old as mom thought. The VET said I looked good, but, then, I knew that. I am sooooo cute. Mom was happy to hear that, and made another date for the VET next month....oh, nooooo......do I have to go back there again??
The Vet said I might not feel well after the shot.......I did pretty well for awhile when I got home, but pretty soon I got a fever and just wanted to cuddle up under mom's chin and rest. Mom was so worried that I was sick....but by next morning I was my usual rowdy self.
I have been keeping busy since then running around the house, up and down dad's big chair by that computer, and playing on the bed at night when they are trying to sleep. Even though I am naughty sometimes, they love me and tell me how cute I am. I gotta make the best of this now, cuz when I am older I don't think I will be so cute, and will not play and do all those cute tricks I can do now!
Today mom has to get busy on a quilt with a VW on it. Later this week she has to work at the big quilt show in La Conner. I won't get to see her much while she is working there. I will have to think up some cute new tricks to show her while she is away working.
I hope you will check in on me later this week to see what I am doing. I hope you have fun today climbing up the backs of chairs and jumping off the footstool, too. I can jump about 3 feet....maybe I will join the circus when I get older. I could work on the trapeze! Have a fun day....Sparkie
Janet came over to see how cute I was. She is a great knitter, and I hope I looked cute enough to have her knit me some cute mittens for the winter. She made my mom some socks, but I think mittens would work better for kittens! Then Aunt Opal came by too. She is a great photographer. She took some pictures of me, which she put on Flickr.....lots of people thought I was soooo cute. Aunt Arlene, our neighbor came by, too, and she was impressed with my cute little face. It is a good thing, since she will be feeding me whenever mom and dad go away.
Mom got me a strange looking little red house, with screens on the sides and front. She says it will be fun to ride in when I go to the VET....I am still not sure about this VET thing. I am pretty little to go in the car for a ride in that strange little red house. She even put kibble inside to get me to try it out. The kibble is good, but I am not sure I am going to fall for her tricks!
Mom finished some more quilts and went to the Post Office. She leaves me in the house and I cuddle up under her big quilt in the recliner and take a nap till she comes in for lunch. Today I hid on her, and when she came in she couldn't find me right away. I finally jumped out and surprised her. She didn't think it was very funny, because she was worried that I was lost or maybe sick. She needs to lighten up a bit!
Well tomorrow I will let you know how my ride to the VET went in that funny little red house. Mom will be working on a T shirt quilt, so I will get a big, long nap. She finished Freddy's modern looking quilt today, too. Freddy's quilts are so colorful. I like all those bright, happy colors. I think mom should make a quilt for me.....maybe with mice and birds on it.
Well, it is getting close to my bedtime, and I have to get ready to jump around on the bed and annoy mom and dad. Sometimes I crawl under the covers and tickle mom.
I hope you all have a great night's sleep tonite, too. Sparkie

P.S. I cannot get my picture to work tonite on the computer. I will post some pictures tomorrow.Judy Irishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16898257311931581479noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5750113422989209471.post-4747776313202315332013-09-23T13:14:00.002-07:002013-09-23T13:14:34.984-07:00A Note From SparkieHi kitten lovers!
My name is Sparkie, and I have recently been adopted by my new mom and dad, Ken and Judy. I was the perfect choice, even though they thought another black cat would be perfect. When Judy came in to look at the kittens in my house, she picked me right up....I guess it was the beautiful sparkly eyes that spoke to her! They were blue last week, but I think they are changing a little more to green, just like the sparkly green eyes that were in her cat dream last month!
I had to stay with my other family till Tuesday night when "mom" got home from Whidbey Island. They already had my new litter box and food dish, food and such necessary items. I just looked so cute, they couldn't help but love me right off, and I felt right at home from when first got to their house.
I didn't hide under the couch or try to play hard to get at all.
I chased toys, ran around looking cute, and ate out of my new bowl and used my litter box without any coaching at all. Of course mom had to mash up my kibble a little bit. Even for kitten food it was pretty big, so I guess she figured it needed tinier pieces. Meow Mix, my favorite.
The first night was pretty good...I guess mom was afraid she would roll over on me in bed, so she got up about 1 am and slept in her recliner with me right on her tummy and snuggled under her chin. The next night I slept in the recliner all by myself, snuggled up in a great big quilt.
Of course the next day I had to be as cute as possible so she would really love me and give me lots of kisses and hold me whenever she could. I love to climb up her jeans leg and try to see what is cooking in the kitchen. I even tried to climb up the drawer pulls, and made it up to the third one.
I love to follow their big feet around the house and jump out to scare them! Climbing onto their lap when they are busy is great fun, too.
I love my kibble, so mom will have to watch that I don't get too fat like my cousin Obie...he is 25 pounds...yikes. I don't want to have to on the treadmill or give up my kibble allowance.
I love to play with my toys, and even use my scratching post. Mom thinks I am pretty smart and brags about me all the time. Right now I am climbing up her leg to take a quick nap on her lap while she is helping me type this blog. What is a blog, anyway??
I will have to learn how to be more technically literate in the 21st century. Being a cat used to be so simple....just eat, play, look cute, and sleep. Now I have to know how to do the keyboard and write blogs.
This morning I woke mom up early trying to crawl under her chin and into her hands.....she gave up and sat in her recliner. I guess I better stop for now, and let her give me some hugs. I know she has to go back to work, and I will take a nap in her chair all snuggled up in my quilt. She says I have to go to something called a VET.....I wonder what that is. I hope they have toys and treats. with love, Sparkie
I stayed with a great gal, Dorothy, who was just about the best handquilter I have ever seen. It makes we wish I could hand quilt, but it just makes me so frustrated. All I see is a big blank quilt in front of me, with miles of handquilting to go. They have a great guild, and it was nice to see a few gals I already knew from here and there!
While at Dorothy's I met her cute and cuddly Corgi dog, Maggie. She was smart as a whip, and minded so well....Maggie, go to your room! And off she went. Her husband, Bill, makes great airplanes out of pop cans, and they are so realistic. Hobbies are so wonderful, and I often wonder how people live without at least one hobby!
Tuesday we had class where we did three different projects: fabric weaving, machine quilting, and the lone star. We got so busy I even forgot to take pictures...but I am hoping they will send me pictures that I can post. Near the end, one very funky Halloween quilt began to emerge into a great lone star. There were some great samples of machine quilting and woven quilts that will be fabulous when finished. I am so looking forward to seeing pictures of the finished projects. It was just too much fun. I love to teach and teaching 3 at a time is all the more fun.
The La Conner Quiltfest is drawing close in just a couple weeks, and I also have to get my quilts shipped to MQX for their show coming up in early October. Lots to do with quilting my customer quilts, too. I have some really fun ones lately, but I think all the quilts I get are quite spectacular. and I enjoy quilting on every one of them.
This Saturday we have our class for Gathering Fabric at the Woodinville Grange. It will be fun as we have had a few gals gone for vacation and such, so it will be like a reunion again!
My last class at Pacific Fabrics, Northgate, was great too. Nine gals including one junior high gal who did magnificent machine quilting. I got a nice note from my young gal's mom...it seems like she was really taken by machine quilting. We really have to get those young gals into the quilting world.
We had two smashing thunder storms recently, and they were LOUD and magnificent....a great sound and light show. I miss thunder storms so much.
Well, kitty girl....Sparkie is so much fun. I had forgotten how cute kittens can be. I think I should have named her funny girl.
Well, my lunch break has been long enough, I better close for now and get back to the machine....have a great day. Judy
Quilt Camp at Barb's...my sis-in-law's. We sewed in her dining room....what fun!Judy Irishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16898257311931581479noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5750113422989209471.post-9576447532035473752013-09-20T09:33:00.002-07:002013-09-20T09:33:48.947-07:00Back From ArkansasDear Bloggers!
We are back from Arkansas and visiting the family. We had a great time, and my sweet sister-in-law even set up a sewing room in her dining room for us...2 machines, ironing board, and cutting table. We had a blast sewing, and planning some new quilts. Of course the main reason for going was to see Ken's 91 year old mom, who just moved to AR from Grand Rapids. What a pioneer spirit she has. She is doing just great, and we had to celebrate with daily visits to the best ice cream store ever. They even have their own cows!
Check out Braums if you are ever in the area where they have ice cream parlors. It is sooooo yummy.
Barb set up a great 2 days of sewing classes at her local shop, Village Quilting. One of the best parts of that was that I got to meet Sherry, one of my quilting clients. Gosh, the wonders of the quilting world. To think she drove all the way from Lincoln, Nebraska to take my class. She has a childhood friend in the area, so we had a great time in class and dinner afterword.
Everyone in class made spectacular lone stars. In the second class we even had a guy! Raymond sent a picture of his finished lone star, which I will post as soon as I get all my pictures figured out. What a brave guy to put up with all us gals! Not to mention what a great sport he was. Thanks for taking the class, Ray, we all had a blast.
Bentonville also has the most amazing new art museum, about the only one built anywhere in the US in many years. It was spectacular and had a permanent exhibit of quite amazing pieces. Thanks to WalMart for building it, and the permanent collection is free to the public.
I was sad that we did not have one thunderstorm the whole week we were there. But we did make up for that with 2 of the biggest thunder and lightning displays ever.....Washington does not have these storms, at least in our area. They were terrific. Thunder storms are my favorite weather unless it is sunny and 70!
The only thing about vacations, is that they end way too soon.
We got home in time to see a sign, "Kittens" down the road from our house. It was meant to be....check out our first picture of Sparkie...she is so cute, and funny. I will post pictures as she goes along.
Hope you are all looking forward to a fabulous fall. I will miss those spectacular colors in CT, but hope to have a great spring show when I go in May.
Happy quilting to all, judy
Well, after 4 years I am happy to report that my missing catfish has re-appeared.
When we moved the koi and 2 bitty 3 inch long catfish into our new pond, everything went swimmingly!
After a bit one of the catfish came up to eat with the koi.....but only one ever showed up for lunch. He slowly has grown to about 16 inches long. (Hard to be sure, he swims pretty fast!)

Keep that net on the pond, or the fish disappear with the herons.

See, no catfish here!

I call this one the KOI CHOIR!

This beautiful quilt was made by Julie Stockler from one of Kaffe's patterns. I have only just begun mine! I love this particular quilt made with the luscious strips from Kaffe Fassett.

One of my class-members, Marilyn, made this beautiful hand dyed piece in class a few weeks ago
I kept scanning the water to see if number 2 catfish would ever show up. He continued to be missing and we just assumed he had gone to his great reward, altho he never floated to the top, as usually happens in such cases! We never found him in the filters....he was so tiny I thought he may have gotten sucked through the system.
Well, imagine my surprise when he appeared Wednesday morning for breakfast! He is about a foot long, not as big as his brother...but, then, he has not been eating fish food like a pig for the last 4 years.
It so exciting to see him there eating with all gang. I am glad there is a happy ending to that fish tale!

Fall is in the air...the evenings and mornings are cooler, and though we have had little rain, it does seem like we are changing seasons. Even some of my lobelia flowers are starting to die out. I did find the orange and yellow crocosmias I had wanted and plan to put them in the ground soon. I can grow them really well!
Our millions of blackberries are ripening. (I don't even like them, but guess one batch of jam won't hurt!) Our weeds are ever present, and the grass still needs mowing on a regular basis.
Coming up next weekend is the big APQW show in Tacoma. It is a huge quilt show, and I have a little piece in the fabric challenge. It is always a great place for inspiration and shopping, of course.

The La Conner Quilt show comes the first weekend of October, so busy getting ready for that one, too. I am in charge of the vendors. It will have some spectacular quilts, too.
In the meantime, I am busy with customer quilts, and working on a few of my own.....hope you are all enjoying the season and finding time to see the beauty all around you. Till later, JudyJudy Irishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16898257311931581479noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5750113422989209471.post-83590920149196776502013-07-21T22:41:00.000-07:002013-07-21T22:41:00.421-07:00Arkansas Here I Come!!

One of my quilts in progress. I started the star with bright prints, but it was too much for my fabulous French girly fabric...so I scrapped that and did the star with all blacks and whites.
My chicken lone star....so fun to make. I made it rectangular by adding extra borders.
The orange one I think is one of my favorites....I call it Orange-a-licious....thanks to Stephie for the name.
Some exciting news for me...I have a wonderful sister-in-law....also a fabulous quilter, who has me all set to teach when I visit her in Bentonville, AR in September. What fun that will be.
I will be teaching at the Village Quilting in Bentonville where we will be creating beautiful lone star quilts my fast and easy method.
I have taught lone stars many times, and even total beginners make beautiful lone stars! One of the gals in my guild just brought the one she made in my class a few months ago. It was a beauty. Sadly, I did not have my camera for a picture. I will post some lonestars of mine, and a few of Freddy Moran's that I quilted for her. I am totally addicted to lone star quilts, but mine are usually not very traditional in fabric selection and colors. I hope many of you will join me and Barb Hamernik for the Lone Star class. The shop has the details and supply list. Just bring some great fabric, and don't forget the chocolate! We will have a great time making lone star quilts. They really are easy to make. Most classes several gals will get the star done and often the entire background.
Don't let this quilt scare you off.
I am also working on a couple lone stars in the modern quilt style. Will post the parts as I progress. I think I will save them for class as sample to show you how they go together.
See you in early September. Judy Irish

By the way, I started with one, got going on some more, and thought 6 is a good number, then a dozen, and why not a baker's dozen...now I am nearing 20....maybe I should go for 50....that is a good number!Judy Irishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16898257311931581479noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5750113422989209471.post-58188719717689660872013-06-19T12:04:00.001-07:002013-06-19T12:04:16.861-07:00Fancy FeetWell, here I am....still missing??? Gosh, where does the time go? I guess I have been quilting up a storm, and especially trying to finish my daddy on the motorcycle quilt. It has been much more challenging than I thought. I am not sure I am totally happy with the results so far, but since it is my daddy, I have had a good time thinking about him, while collaging and quilting the piece. I think I have finally decided to just put a very thin black binding around it.
I had thought about photo corners, in black fabric, but nixed that one...then, just facing it, but with a dry run of black binding, decided that might be the best solution. Thankfully the museum extended the deadline by a couple weeks, so guess I will get it done...aiming for this weekend.
Well, a few of the Goof Balls went on a great field trip by ferry over to Kingson, Port Gamble and Poulsbo....great quilt shops and way tooooo much fabric to tempt the eyes and wallet.
Saw lots of great Kaffe fabric, and bought a few pieces, too.
I am still teaching at the shop in Freeland, WA on Whidbey Island. You all should make a trek there if you get the chance...also a great Chinese restaurant just as you get to the turn-off.
This week is our Shop Hop...like 60+ shops....I don't plan to go....I like a road trip to fewer shops! Anyway, got too many quilts to catch up on.
So, I had to post pix of my new tennies...guess I better not try to rob a bank with those shoes on....it is a dead give-away......
Well, guess I better get back to the long-arm....working a gorgeous modern look quilt, by my friend Dorothy. She does beautiful quiltz.
In the mean-time, happy quilting. jude
